Tracciamento delle stampe

Molte delle stampanti in commercio, specialmente quelle a colori, stampano un codice quasi impercettibile formato da puntini gialli. Questo codice contiene informazioni come il numero di serie della stampante, la data e l’ora della stampa. Ecco un esempio di quanto stampato:

La tecnica di codifica è basata sulla Stenografia e venne introdotta negli anni ’90 da aziende come Xerox per convincere i governi che le loro stampanti non potevano essere usate per la contraffazione.
Il “nobile” intento ha però una seconda faccia della medaglia, ovvero lede totalmente il diritto di privacy degli onesti cittadini e mette nelle mani dei governi un ulteriore strumento di coercizione.

Un esempio eclatante è quanto accaduto nei primi mesi del 2017 quando i giornalisti del “The Intercept” hanno inviato alla NSA il documento anonimo contenente informazioni sui presunti tentativi del governo Russo di interferire nelle elezioni presidenziali Statunitensi.
Tramite la codifica stenografica impressa dalla stampante la NSA è risalita a Reality Leigh Winner, una dipendente di una società che collabora con l’agenzia governativa.

Ancora una volta la libertà di pensiero e di parola è stata sottomessa ai fini di quei governi che non hanno interesse a far emergere verità scomode.
